Who the course is for

This course is designed for researchers of any discipline.

It will be useful if you are preparing a new research project or proposal for funding as many funders know require gender considered in an application process. It will also be helpful if you are looking to learn more about the language around sex and gender and the importance of disaggregating data.

Course objectives

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  1. Appreciate the importance of integrating gender into research design and methodology,
  2. Apply a gender lens to your research design,
  3. Identify actions to make each stage of your research more gender responsive.

About the course

The course will take between 6-10 hours to complete.

The materials can be completed on a mobile or computer. The activities include reading materials, short videos and interactive quizzes.

There is an assignment where you will assess your own research plans, and if you complete all the assigned activities you will unlock a certificate of completion.

What learners said about the course

“This course deepened my understanding of how gender manifests across every stage of the research cycle—from idea formulation to communication. While I had previously integrated gender in my research... the course helped me reflect more critically on areas I had overlooked, such as team composition, inclusive language, and dissemination strategies and more others.”

“I found it incredibly helpful to identify my gaps in integrating gender as a central focus throughout the research process, from start to finish. I also gained a clearer understanding of the differences between gender and sex, as well as how the global research community is often overlooking this crucial aspect.”

“Through this course, I learned the value of integrating gender considerations systematically throughout the research cycle. It showed me that gender is not just an add-on but a critical factor that influences research design, data collection, analysis, and interpretation. I also gained a deeper appreciation of how gender dynamics affect access, participation, and outcomes in different contexts. Overall, the training enhanced my ability to make research more equitable, inclusive, and responsive to real-world needs.”
