Welcome to INASP's most popular course, getting started with writing and publishing your research.
This course is designed for researchers across the Global South and in resource constrained settings who want to publish their research. It will be useful for Masters' students, PhD students, postdoctoral staff, and researchers who are earlier in their academic career journey.
There is no cost to participate in this tutorial. It is offered as an open educational resource by INASP.
Course objectives 🎯
- Apply strategies to access and interpret academic research
- Evaluate ethical challenges in academic research and publishing, including the responsible and transparent use of AI tools.
- Structure a research paper for an academic journal.
- Select a relevant peer-reviewed journal for your research.
Length ⌛
This course is delivered over six weeks. There are approximately 4-6 hours of study a week.

Certification 🥇
A certificate will be generated automatically for you once you have met the completion criteria.
A pass certificate will be issued to learners who complete all the learning materials, achieve 80% in the quizzes and who complete the pre and post course feedback survey.
A merit certificate will be issued to learners who also complete the two peer marked assignments by the deadlines set.
Connectivity and devices required📱
Most of the learning resources are text-based, so you do not need a high-bandwidth internet connection. There are optional videos and live Zoom sessions.
The course can also be accessed on a mobile and through the Moodle app.
